Message from ISC
The World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR) held its 74th Annual Conference ONLINE due to global travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The conference was held November 2-6, 2021.
Not all public opinion research is welcomed during times of crises. How can our research be most effectively communicated both to leaders and to citizens when facing public health emergencies? What role should public opinion research play in societies facing political or economic turmoil? Our 2021 conference seeks to address these questions.
Virtual Conference Format
The WAPOR annual conference platform allowed live online presentations during the conference. Registrants can access the program for 90 days to allow access to the recorded sessions.
The conference began on November 2 with the WAPOR Welcome and the Member Business Meeting. One of the highlights of the first day was the keynote address, Alle, Nicht Jeder (Everyone, Not Anyone), which was given by Marta Lagos (MORI (CHILE) S.A.). Marta is the Founding Director of Latinobarómetro Corporation and is WAPOR’s National Representative in Chile. You can watch the keynote address on our YouTube channel here. There was also a special panel on the History of WAPOR, featuring Tom W. Smith, Robert M. Worcester, Alejandro Moreno, Manuel Sánchez-Castro, and Murray Goot. Full sessions began on November 3.
The WAPOR conference welcomed two types of sessions/panels: 1) REGULAR SESSIONS (individual research paper presentations) and 2) PANELS (submitted as pre-organized panels):
1) REGULAR SESSIONS (60 MINUTES): The regular sessions were LIVE online, with each speaker presenting for 10 minutes.
2) LIVE PANELS (60 MINUTES): The preorganized panels each allowed 10 minutes for each speaker to present LIVE as well.
We also hosted a POSTER SESSION on November 2.
There were be coffee breaks, the Award Ceremony on November 4 from 16:30-17:30 UTC, and other opportunities to greet old friends and new!
