Survey Research in International and Comparative Contexts: Showcase of Free Online Courses and Guidelines

Survey research carried out in international settings and in comparative cross-cultural contexts presents a set of unique methodological challenges. This presentation will showcase two resources facilitated by the Survey Research Center International Unit at the University of Michigan which are freely available for use by researchers and survey practitioners. The first resource (Noon-1:00 PM) is a series of online video short courses which provide introductory and foundational background for topics related to key stages of the survey life cycle and challenges faced in international surveys. The second resource (1:15 PM – 2:15 PM) is the Cross-Cultural Survey Guidelines, developed to promote internationally recognized best practices for the design and implementation of multinational, multicutural, and multiregional (3MC) surveys, covering all stages of the survey life cycle.
About the presenters:

Dr. Mneimneh is an Assistant Research Scientist in the Survey Methodology Program and the director of the International Unit within the Survey Research Center, University of Michigan. She is also an affiliated Assistant Research Professor in the School of Public Policy at Georgetown University.

Julie de Jong (M.S.) is a Survey Methodologist in the International Unit within the Survey Research Center, and holds a Master’s Degree in Survey Methodology from the University of Michigan.
